Thank you for an amazing summer concert

Thank you for an amazing summer concert this past weekend, July 15 and 16 at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center. This concert included a few nice touches this time around – upgraded table seating with complementary wine or beverage, a fun and fabulous swing dance stage, and costume contest winners…congratulations!

The Oakland-East Bay Gay Men’s Chorus would like to share a personal message from our Artistic Director, William Sauerland.

From our Artistic Director

Thank you so much for coming to swing with us! I was really thrilled to welcome to the stage the fabulous big band City Swing under the direction of Bradley Connlain with the incomparable guest soloist Leanne Borghesi. While I have been away to finish up my doctoral coursework, Bradley served as guest music director of OEBGMC, and so he deserves special recognition for his contributions to this show!

We finish up our season with this wonderful swing era show! If this was your first time coming to an OEBGMC concert, we do everything from classical standards to musical theatre, pop, rock, and new music. I am excited to announce our lineup for our 2017-18 season. We will begin our concert season in December 2017 with “A Merry Little Concert,” featuring works from our forthcoming holiday album A Merry Little Album recorded at Tiny Tele-phone Studio, here in Oakland. In the spring, we will be celebrating the centennial of Leonard Bernstein with our concert “Lenny and the Boys,” which will feature both his classical and musical theatre repertoire, alongside pieces inspired by Bernstein’s repertoire. We will finish up our season in July 2018 with a Disney-inspired theme, Part of Their World: The Magical Music of Ashman and Menken. This legendary pair wrote the scores to Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Little Shop of Horrors.

If you have ever considered singing in a fun and welcoming environment, please consider singing with us next season. I am proud to say OEBGMC is an inclusive choral ensemble for gay, trans, bi and straight individuals who sing in the tenor-bass range. It is an honor to serve as Artistic Director of this wonderful community. If you are interested in becoming part of our community through singing or otherwise, email contactoebgmc@oebgmc.org for more information! We have auditions coming up in August and we hope you join us!
